All About Me

I guess I should tell you a bit about myself.

First off, my name is Cindy.  Well, it’s actually Cynthia, but I only use that if I have to.  Though I have lived in a few places, I currently reside in the lovely little town of Almira, WA.

I first started blogging back in October of 2013.  My first blog was titled Living with Migraines.  I have since renamed it to Mind Over Migraines.  I created it as a way to get out all of my frustrations at dealing with this disease and also as a way of letting my family and friends stay up to date on what is going on.  I have since added Mutterings & Musings, My Favorite Recipes, and Smoothies by ShanonaMommy.  M&M was originally supposed to be a daily blog, but it got to be too difficult to keep up with due to my migraines.  So I changed it to be whatever got stuck in my head to write about.  I’ve always wanted a place to keep all of my favorite recipes, so it just seemed like a natural thing to add that to my blog as well.  As for the Smoothie page, I recently started making smoothies and wanted to be able to share my concoctions with whoever needed an idea.

I’m not very good at writing things about myself, so I did a Google search.  This page recommend reviewing my Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook pages for things about myself.  Here are just a few things about me:

First of all, I am mother.  I have twin girls, who have been described as the “least twin-like twins” there could be.  I like to describe them as sisters who share a birthday.  I am also engaged to a wonderful man.  Ted has been one of the best things that could ever have happened to me.  He came along with 2 daughters of his own.  The oldest is 1 1/2 years older than my twins and the youngest is 4 months younger.  As I’m sure you can imagine, having 4 girls that close in age is quite the experience.  They are still young enough that I’m pretty sure it’s not as bad as it could be.  I will tell you that I am not really looking forward to them all being teenagers.

Alex Cartwright – Singer/Songwriter Extraodinaire

My best friend in the whole world (second to Ted, of course) is Alex Cartwright.  Alex has always been a positive inspiration to me.  She is a songwriter, singer, amazing cook, and awesome friend.  She writes both bluegrass/country and children’s songs.  Her cooking is, to put it simply, yummy.

So I guess it’s time for some slightly more personal things.

First, I love to read.  I’ve been an avid reader for as long as I can remember.  Some memories include:  in third grade, I would get through my classwork as quickly as it was possible (and still get it right) so that I could go to the reading area to read another book.  In about middle school, I no longer had a bed time, as my mom got tired of me getting in trouble for staying up too late reading.  She finally told me, “You know what time you have to get up in the morning for school.  If you are tired, it’s your own fault.”  Even now, as an adult, I still read whenever I can.  My family has been known to have to yell at me to get my attention when I’m engrossed in a book.  My goodreads page can be found here. Since I read fairly quickly, I don’t always remember that I need to update it.

I also am what some call a “gamer chick”.  I don’t really call myself that, but I do love to play computer games, especially of the MMO variety.  I started out with Ultima Online.  I also played Dark Ages of Camelot for awhile.  I consider my real gaming experience to have started with World of Warcraft.  I started playing in 2007 and continued on and off until recently (2013).  I’m sure I will pick it back up again sometime in the future.  After I met Ted, we started looking for a game we could play together, since he doesn’t like WoW.  Since we are both a tad bit geeky, Star Wars: The Old Republic was a natural try.    That was fun, for awhile. Next came Guild Wars 2, where we joined up with the guild/family of Gaiscioch (Pronounced: Gosh-Kia).  With them, it was natural to try Rift and Neverwinter Nights.  Neither really worked for us.  I am currently playing Elder Scrolls Online.  Ted’s current games include OOP and Hearthstone.

I LOVE music.  I grew up with music playing almost constantly in my house.  I did choir and band on and off through out school.  I can’t tell you what is my favorite, as I listen to almost everything.  You’ll see that on my Pandora station.

I once took an Interior Designer course through the mail.  While that never panned out, I have always been interested in, and pretty good at, coloring.  I may not be good at drawing anything, but color matching comes easy to me.  When I found COLOURlovers, it was like my own personalized online adult coloring book.  It hasn’t stayed just mine, though.  My twins like to play “the coloring game”.  You’ll find a few of my patterns with colors that were chosen by them.

To finish this long bio (though I reserve the right to add more later), here are a few of my favorite quotes:

I have the patience of a saint, but the temper of a goddess.  You figure it out.

I’ll share my home, my car, my money and my family, but I will NOT share my man.  When it comes to my man, I do NOT play well with other women.  Find your own!

This I think I have learned: where there is love, the form does not matter, and the gods are pleased. This I have observed: what occurs in nature, comes by the hand of nature, and if the gods did not approve, it would not be there.”

  1. My son has suffered migraines since he was a toddler. We thought that he was getting sick with the stomach flu until my sister noticed his pattern of getting sick at every holiday celebration and suggested that he was reacting to the stimulation. Now that he is an articulate adolescent, he is able to verbalize what is going on, what helps, and what does not help. Thank you for blogging about living with migraines.

  2. Hi Cindy,
I just saw your blog as I was wandering through some posts associated with Zentangle. I’ve been tangling recently, but the name of your blog struck me more than the art actually. As someone who suffered with hormonal migraines for decades I can empathize greatly. I also noticed that you live in Washington. I am out west, in Puyallup. It’s not often I run into bloggers who live this close but lately I’ve encountered quite a few. I look forward to taking some time to read through your blog and just want to say hang in there 🙂
